New WLAN stack integrated into kernel

Tux
The new WLAN stack mac80211 just made the jump from the -mm development kernel into Linus’ main kernel. Kernel 2.6.22 will already ship with the new WLAN stack.

Together with the new WLAN subsystem the new configuration system cfg80211 was also included. The git commits can be seen here (WLAN subsystem) and here (configuration system).
However, it looks like that at the moment non of the new drivers was imported as well. But there are still several days left before the feature freeze of the mainline kernel, therefore it is likely that we see new drivers soon.

Funny thing btw.: The inclusion takes place exactly one year after I started writing about the new WLAN stack. Must be magic 😉
